This past Sunday I had a great experience at church. The ward out here is very involved with outreach. They have a partnership with a local Baptist church called One Heart Many Hands, and meet with them regularly. Yesterday was their turn to come to our ward. They joined for an hour long class where President Keeler and Pastor Albert Nicholas of the Pilgrim Missionary Baptitst Church both spoke and then had a Q & A for the audience.
President Keeler put a lot of doctrine into his talk showing how the Book of Mormon & Doctrine & Covenants is an extension of doctrine in the Old & New Testament. He touched on a few topics that peeked the interest of a few Baptist members, particularly the degrees of glory and Joseph Smith.
Pastor Albert Nicholas gave a much different type of talk. It was very typical to what I imagined it would be. Lots of pauses for emphasis followed by very loud punctuated thoughts. He summarized a lot of stories in the bible, and gave a very uplifting speech. The crowd regularly responded with resounding amens and uh huhs.
The best part was listening to their choir. They were AMAZING! They rocked the house as our Bishop so sweetly commented.
